In fact, it is estimated that approximately half of all addiction counsellors are in recovery themselves. Whether or not counsellors should disclose their recovery status to clients is up for debate. Some claim that professional boundaries should always be maintained during addiction treatment while others argue that revealing one’s own recovery is beneficial to the treatment process.
